Acts 18:28 - Scripture-Centered Ministry

Acts 18:28
records that Apollos “mightily convinced the Jews, and that publicly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.” Luke does not credit Apollos with clever arguments or emotional persuasion, but with faithful use of the Word of God. Though he was eloquent and learned, the power of his witness rested in what he proved from Scripture, not in how impressive he sounded while doing it. Apollos reasoned with clarity and patience, connecting God’s long-promised purposes with the life and work of Jesus. He did not present a new idea, but showed that Christ was the fulfillment of what God had already spoken. The authority was not his own. The evidence came from the very Scriptures his hearers already trusted.

That pattern still matters. We live in a time that prizes quick opinions and strong personalities, but God has never depended on human charisma to accomplish eternal work. Our calling is not to win arguments, but to be faithful witnesses. When we speak from God’s Word, we are placing confidence where it belongs, in what God has said, not in how well we can say it. This also frees us from pressure. We do not have to manufacture results or force agreement. Our responsibility is obedience, clarity, and love. The convincing work belongs to Scripture, and the life-changing work belongs to the Spirit of God. When we speak truth with humility and confidence, God remains fully able to use His Word to reach hearts, just as He did through Apollos long ago.
